London’s Roman Amphitheatre Guildhall Yard, London EC2V 5AE
Archaeological excavation in 1988 prior to construction of the Guildhall Art Gallery revealed the amphitheatre of Roman Londinium.
The original amphitheatre was constructed c. 70 AD and was a simple wooden structure. It was rebuilt in the early second century on a much larger and grander scale, being capable of accommodating some 6,000 people.
The amphitheatre is reached via the Art Gallery where the original remains of the structure can be seen. There is also a digital display to provide more information into its usage.
