Tower Bridge Rd, London SE1 2UP
Tower Bridge is a Grade I listed building that was constructed between 1886 and 1894. The project engineer was John Wolfe Barry, and the architect was Horace Jones.
The bridge is 240 metres long with two towers supporting two bascules that open to permit the passage of large ships. The operating system was originally hydraulically powered but was converted to to an electro-hydraulic system in 1972.
It is now possible to visit the two towers, the west walkway and the engine rooms. (Tickets must be booked for this visit.)
