EMAS Study Tour to Orkney

6 – 15 April 2021

The 2021 EMAS spring study tour will be to Orkney. We will travel by coach from Baker Street, London stopping overnight at Carlisle and Inverness and visiting archaeological sites on the way.

We will be based in Kirkwall, and will visit sites on Orkney Mainland and the islands of Egilsay, Rousay and Wyre. The sites that we will visit include Maes Howe, Skara Brae, Midhowe Broch, the Brough of Birsay, Cubbie Roo’s Castle, the Earl’s Palace at Birsay and Kirkwall Cathedral.

EMAS Study Tour to Yorkshire

1 – 6 November 2021

The EMAS autumn study tour will be to Yorkshire. We will be based in the historic town of Selby which is often describe as one of Yorkshire’s hidden gems.

Yorkshire has a magnificent range of archaeology, much of it set in beautiful countryside. Site that we will visit include the mile-long cursus with its three aligned henges at Thornborough; the complex Roman site at Cawthorn; the seventh century crypt in Ripon Cathedral, the important collection of Anglo-Scandinavia sculpture at Lythe; and, of course, Yorkshire’s splendid Abbeys and Castles.
