EMAS Field Trip

The White Horse, Uffington: an Archaeological Palimpsest

Saturday, 7 July 2018

Guide: David Beard

This field trip centres on the area around the White Horse of Uffington, an area that comprises a wealth of archaeological features ranging from the Neolithic to the medieval.

Originally thought to date to the Iron Age - an assumption based on the similarity of the horse’s appearance to figures on Iron Age coins, work by Oxford Archaeology in 1990 showed that the White Horse dated to the late Bronze Age (c. 1380 to 550 BC).

This field trip will also include a visit to the famous Seven Barrows site near Lambeth Downs.
